Luke Sweeney is a novel and short story writer based in Richmond, Virginia.
Bio:
Born and raised in southern Maine, I graduated from Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida with a B.A. in philosophy.
I spent my salad days toggling between the top and bottom of the eastern coast, never settling long enough to renew a lease, until the bungee cord snapped and I ended up in Peru teaching English before finally settling in Richmond, Virginia.
I’ve worked as a lifeguard, dishwasher, line cook, mussel farm hand, hot dog stand attendant, and later as a teacher, editor, and proposal writer. I’ve cleaned every type of substance off of every type of surface.
Plenty of influences have found their way into my work, including but not limited to: Mario Vargas Llosa, Rachel Kushner, Denis Johnson, Julia Elliot, Charles Bukowski, Breece D’J Pancake, Walker Percy, Richard Wright, Lauren Groff, Paul Beatty, Adam Johnson, Francine Prose, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Cormac McCarthy, Katherine Dunn, and many more.
